Description
Mothers wait for their children to be measured for malnutrition at a mobile malnutrition clinic run by MCC partner organization Konbit Peyizan in the Artibonite region in Haiti. This clinic comes to the Kiwuit community (as well as other surrounding rural communities) to check in and measure the progress of vulnerable young children.
The women will receive resources and education about how to improve and maintain their children's health. The local nurses check up on mothers and children every two weeks and accompany them for a healthy upbringing.
Personal/Project impact
Clinic staff provide training for mothers to give them a better understanding of how to keep their children healthy through improved cooking methods and hygiene.
At-risk children and their families are found and identified through the vast network of community groups that Konbit Peyizan has helped establish called gwoupmans.
MCC canned meat is kept in stock at MCC's office in Haiti for quick response to disaster relief. Thankfully there was no significant need for the meat since it arrived in Haiti and it was nearing the expiration date. Instead of letting the meat go to waste, it was distributed at the clinic to help malnourished children gain back their health. In addition to meat, the clinic uses other protein and vitamin sources like peanut butter and more to boost nutrition in young children.
