Description
On January 20, 2020, volunteers gathered at the MCC Material Resources Centre in Plum Coulee to sew and tie handmade comforters for the Great Winter Warm-up. Together they completed 150 blankets.
Over 3,141 comforters were collected from community events across Manitoba for the Great Winter Warm-up. The comforter-tying event was held across North America (and even a few locations in Europe) to kick-off MCC's Centennial year on January 18th, 2020. In Manitoba, some groups held their event at a later date due to a blizzard on January 18, 2020. From across North America, MCC received 9,504 comforters, exceeding the goal of 6,500 comforters, which will be delivered to families who have been displaced by conflict and disaster in places like the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ukraine and Lebanon. Recipients use comforters as bed covers, room dividers, carpets, curtains, wraps, mattresses and more.
