Volunteers from Newton, Kansas area churches work together at the MCC Material Resources Center in North Newton, Kansas on November 11, 2020. The MCC mobile cannery was in North Newton, Kansas in November 5–21 and 106,000 lbs. of chicken were canned
.The mobile cannery comes to North Newton every fall as part of MCC’s meat canning program. Volunteers from various churches sign-up to volunteer and give their time to help make a shelf stable product that is nutritious and delicious for people in the U.S. and around the world. In 2020, due to COVID-19, meat canning took place with many extra safety measures in place. All MCC canning and local public health guidelines in place at the time of meat canning were followed.
