Description

Mahmoud Alhalimi, and sons Kareem, centre, and Anas, right, are pictured in front of their still-standing house following the May 2021 Israeli bombardment of Gaza.

Personal/Project impact

Nighttime was the hardest for the family with the electricity cut and bombs falling, and Alhalimi tried in vain to help his children fall asleep. “They asked me all the time, ‘What are these sounds?… Are they coming to our home?’” he said of their time during the Israeli bombardment on Gaza in May 2021. “They were very scared, and I tried to play games with them in order to relieve their fear.”

“Bombardments were everywhere, while no place was safe in Gaza; the shelling was everywhere from sky, sea and land,” sayid Alhalimi.

Project Summary

MCC is responding to the crisis providing emergency food, hygiene items and psychosocial support. The Near East Council of Churches (NECC), runs a vocational training school – they will be providing psychosocial counselling support for students and their families, and one time cash distributions to families that provide emergency support for purchasing food, hygiene items and other medical or household needs.
