Description

Liz Miller, Climate Rider and MCC SALT alum, pauses for a moment along the Western Maryland Rail Trail in Brunswick, Maryland on July 27, 2021. Liz served with MCC's SALT program in Tegucigalpa, Honduras in 2018-19.

Project Summary

A core team of 18 bicyclists made their way from Seattle, Washington, to Washington, D.C. The team began riding on May 31, 2021 and covered nearly 4,000 miles, learning about the impacts of climate change on different communities along the way.

They shared what they have learned through the riders’ blogs, social media and town halls with people across the country. The riders drew attention to climate change resources on the web site of the ride organizer, the Center for Sustainable Climate Solutions (CSCS)—a partnership between MCC, Eastern Mennonite University (EMU) and Goshen College.

Climate Riders were fully vaccinated at the time of their trip and followed the CDC guidelines that were in place in June and July 2021. Riders made sure to wear masks and maintain social distance indoors when interacting with people outside their group.
