Description
Fieldstone erosion barriers traverse the hillsides around the community of Los Corralitos
Personal/Project impact
The erosion barriers improve field conditions by reducing soil runoff during heavy rains. There were 300 participants in the food distribution and initial participants in the stone erosion barrier construction. However, as farmers worked together on each other’s plots, there was some spontaneous participation and in the end 353 farmers constructed 10,313 meters of erosion barriers. These were built on land that belonged to these farming families.
Project Summary
The Social Development Committee (CODESO) is a non-profit Christian Development Organization of the Evangelical Brethren in Christ Church in Honduras. The primary goal of the project is to provide food for 300 farming families through the distribution of rations for work to improve the soil conditions where farming families cultivate by building stone-based field barriers. In addition, the community dam in Las Lomitas which was damaged by Hurricanes Eta and Iota will be repaired and a new water reservoir will be built.
