The earthquake damage in downtown Portoviejo, Manabi Province, Ecuador. The earthquakes on April 16th and 20th killed 660 people and injured more than 4,500. Approximately 1,700 buildings have been damaged or destroyed. Multiple Iglesia Evangélica Menonita Ecuatoriana (IEME) congregations are located in Manabi Province. With encouragement from Rosedale Mennonite Missions, the mission agency of the conference, MCC has sent a disaster response coordinator, David Shenk, to assist IEME in assessing the need and planning the response.
