Description
Men survey the washed out Sultannagar Road in Gopiganj, West Bengal, India. In West Bengal, MCC is partnering with Nabarun Seva Niketan (NSN) to provide food assistance to 1,500 flood-affected families. Food packages include rice, daal, potatoes, onions and spices. MCC is also partnering with Economic Rural Development Society to provide a food basket for 1,520 families in Malda district, West Bengal.
Additional Information: MCC is responding with emergency relief assistance in the wake of severe flooding and landslides across parts of Nepal, India and Bangladesh.
Two weeks of incessant monsoon rains occurring at the end of August 2017 displaced more than 1.7 million people and killed 1,246 in the region.
The floods have destroyed homes, crops and livestock as well as important buildings like schools and health clinics. Families are in need of food, clean water and shelter, and the flooding has caused a higher risk of water-borne diseases. MCC is responding with emergency food and water assistance, as well as tarps and mosquito nets for those affected.
