More information:
This photo was taken during a needs assessment of internally displaced people in the Kasai region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Congolese Mennonites and their neighbors living in central and eastern DR Congo have fled their homes to escape violence due to a crisis caused by political unrest. Some members have been killed or tortured. People in the Kasai region report rampant hunger because fields and homes had to be abandoned. Many church buildings and church-run schools have suffered damage. MCC is collaborating with partners and Mennonite denominations in DR Congo to provide emergency humanitarian assistance.
