Description
Caption for media: Zakaria Amsheh says the monthly food parcel he receives from MCC’s partner, The Popular Aid for Relief and Development, is enough to feed his family. More information:
Photo was taken during a field visit conducted by MCC staff and staff of partner Popular Aid for Relief and Development (PARD) to the home of Zakaria Amsheh, a beneficiary of a food assistance project. Amsheh is Lebanese and lives with his son in the Karatina neighborhood of Beirut, Lebanon. The area was severely affected by the August 2020 blast as it is very close to the Lebanese port where the explosion occurred. Amsheh welcomed the visitors and talked about the impact of the food parcels and the economic conditions he and his son were living in following the blast.
MCC supports the project through its account at Canadian Foodgrains Bank to increase immediate food consumption for 1,000 households directly affected by the Beirut explosion in Karantina, Burj Hammoud and Nabaa neighborhoods of Beirut and Mount Lebanon. The food assistance will provide 50% of food needs for 12 months as well as kitchen kits for households assessed to be in need of these important items. The project targets vulnerable households from all nationalities impacted by the explosion including Syrian refugee, Lebanese and other refugee and migrant worker households.
