Description
Using COVID-19 precautions, Graciella Odelia, packs food to be distributed to people in need around her church, Nations Worship Center in Philadelphia. She was a participant in MCC’s Summer Service program in 2021, in the midst of the pandemic. Instead of coordinating Vacation Bible School like she had done in Summer Service 2020, she developed numerous online teaching opportunities in addition to delivering food. Photo/Marciella Shallomita
Odelia was one of 25 participants in MCC’s Summer Service program last year who adapted to different ways of ministering through their churches and community organizations because of the pandemic.
Summer Service is a program for young adults of color, ages 18 to 30. It is designed for youth who want to strengthen their leadership skills as they get paid to serve their churches or organizations in their home communities. In the process, they help strengthen the mission of the group they serve.
