More information: MCC dignity kits and school kits were distributed to girl students at the Loreto schools in December 2020. Each kit contains reusable menstrual pads and an assortment of other hygiene items.
MCC supports a school kits project in the Diocese of Rumbek through partner Loreto Schools Rumbek to improve school attendance and enrollment. The project also includes distribution of dignity kits to boost the wellbeing and dignity of girl students through improving menstrual hygiene, and assists new and expectant mothers who receive infant care kits.
Vulnerable families in the Maker Kuei community and children in the diocese continue to experience a protracted crisis situation with recurrent inter-communal violence, cattle rustling and revenge attacks. Food insecurity is prevalent and the families spend most of their resources on food and medicines. Thus, supplies like school kits, hygiene and dignity kits and infant care kits help families send their children to school, increase school attendance for girls, and improve the health of infants and young children.
Martha wants to study medicine and women's health after graduation. When asked about the dignity kits, she said the soap and nail clipper help with cleanliness, and because of the training that is included, she can help educate younger girls.
Because she did not have some of these helpful items before she received the dignity kit, Martha says, “now I can study with peace."
