Description
Goats at the Solodo’s traditional Maasai homestead in the Kenyan village of Singiraine. Although goats aren’t worth as much as a cow, Maasai families are learning to raise goats and chickens, which take up less space and resources, as land per family decreases with population growth. Smaller animals also are easier for women and children to raise, while men travel with cattle.
Maasai Integrated Development Initiatives (MIDI), an MCC partner, works with Maasai farmers in Kenya, helping them to adapt to climate change. MIDI teaches a variety of farming techniques, including conservation agriculture, animal food preservation and raising a variety of crops and animals at home while reducing large herds of nomadic cattle. MIDI works in Ewuarso District and parts of Kajiado North District
