Description
Charnesha Collier helps a student navigate the challenges of remote learning during the COVID-19 pandemic in the Operation Second Home program of River City Community Development Center (R CITY) in Chicago. (R CITY policy is not to share names of program participants.) Funded in part by a grant from MCC, Operation Second Home provides remote learning assistance for children of all ages in a safe and caring environment.
Collier participated in MCC’s Summer Service program in 2018 and 2019. Through the tuckpointing (a brick restoration technique) apprenticeship program, which she began at age 16, Collier has been promoted multiple times and is now moving into an associate director position.
Sixty students are registered in the Operation Second Home program which uses learning pod groups and ensures all public health guidelines are followed.
