Description
Four cyclists with the Center for Sustainable Climate Solutions meet with Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.) at the U.S. Capitol on July 28, 2021. The Climate Riders spent two months this summer riding from Washington state to Washington, D.C., learning and raising awareness about the issue of climate change.
Project Summary
A core team of 18 bicyclists made their way from Seattle, Washington, to Washington, D.C. The team began riding on May 31, 2021 and covered nearly 4,000 miles, learning about the impacts of climate change on different communities along the way.
They shared what they have learned through the riders’ blogs, social media and town halls with people across the country. The riders drew attention to climate change resources on the web site of the ride organizer, the Center for Sustainable Climate Solutions (CSCS)—a partnership between MCC, Eastern Mennonite University (EMU) and Goshen College.
Climate Riders were fully vaccinated at the time of their trip and followed the CDC guidelines that were in place in June and July 2021. Riders made sure to wear masks and maintain social distance indoors when interacting with people outside their group.
