Description
Piglets on Mary Ilero‘s farm outside of Soroti City, Uganda. The APED program has helped her get started raising swine.
Personal/Project impact
Ilero was able to turn the one pig and its piglets she received from APED into ongoing opportunities to make more money, including sewing, making peanut butter, buying a cow. Now she has enough money to buy more nutritious food, small gifts for her husband, Christmas gifts and pay tuition. Also, she and her husband reconciled after training on conflict resolution from APED. Now they are a team in supporting their family.
Families are better able to work peacefully together to increase the family income. Children go to school, couples have been reunited and learn to work together, and food needs for the family are met with the money they earn and the money they invest in a community savings group.
Project Summary
The main goal of Action for Peace and Development (APED) Uganda is to contribute to improved socio-economic wellbeing of 200 vulnerable youth in the Teso region through initiatives which increase agricultural production and productivity in Atiira Sub County in Serere District and Soroti Sub County in Soroti District, northeastern Uganda.
