Description
Village elder Joseph Obonyo Lokiru talks about how agriculture has changed over the years in Kachapangole, Uganda.
Personal/Project impact
Describing the climate as it was when he was a young man, Joseph Obonyo Lokiru, 89, said rains used to come in January and February instead of March to April like they do now. The temperatures were more moderate when he was younger, but now are “too hot.”
As climate change made rains unpredictable in 2021 and the average temperatures rise, farmers were able to harvest enough crops to feed their families, make a little money and use the village saving groups as a way to send their children to school.
Project Summary
In the Lokori and Karenga subcounties of Kaabong District, Uganda, DADO prepares the farming community to cope with the impact of climate change through training on conservation agriculture, post harvest food preservation and village savings groups, especially for women and youth.
