Description
Joyce Ngumbao holds a chicken in the coop of the family farm in Kwa Kavisi, Kenya. Ngumbao has expanded her flock of chickens and improved their chicken house to create an alternative source of income during the dry season and drought. Utooni Development Organization (UDO), an MCC partner, works with farmers in Machakos, Makueni and Kajiado counties of Kenya, who are suffering the impact of climate change – unpredictable rainy seasons, decreased rain, and flooding when it does rain. UDO is teaching farmers to implement conservation agriculture, crop diversity and community savings groups as primary ways to increase food security.
