Description
A meeting of the village savings group in Kachapangole, Uganda.
Personal/Project impact
This community savings group works together to contribute a small amount of money each week so that members can borrow from it when they want to invest in their home business or pay an unexpected bill, such as medical expenses. It gives women, especially, more power to manage the expenses of their household.
As climate change made rains unpredictable in 2021 and the average temperatures rise, farmers were able to harvest enough crops to feed their families, make a little money and use the village saving groups as a way to send their children to school.
Project Summary
In the Lokori and Karenga subcounties of Kaabong District, Uganda, DADO prepares the farming community to cope with the impact of climate change through training on conservation agriculture, post harvest food preservation and village savings groups, especially for women and youth.
