Personal/Project impact
Uman Help Center is providing food assistance to local vulnerable residents in Uman Cherkasy region (Central Ukraine). They prioritize the elderly and those who are more vulnerable due to lack of work or opportunity. Uman Help Center purchases meat and other ingredients, prepares it, and sends ready to eat meals to areas where people struggle with access to food. They send food kits to conflict hot spots and to those who could not get evacuated.
Uman Help Center has also distributed MCC relief buckets, hygiene kits and blankets in Uman city, at a Baptist church, along with other humanitarian supplies.
In Uman, the partner is supporting people who have left Irpin, Bucha and Kyiv and arrived in the village where the partner is based or in Uman city. Many people who have relatives or friends in central Ukraine, and had a place to stay in central Ukraine, or were planning to move further, were dropped off in Uman. Others who didn’t have a plan or an arranged place where they could stay, were evacuated and brought to a “camp” that was setup by Uman Help Center for internally displaced people in the village. This building belongs to the local church and in the past was used as a children’s camp. This “camp” can fit 170–200 (max if necessary) people at a time.
Some people who were evacuated from the places where military actions is taking place are not planning to move further and they want to stay in this area for a longer time. In those cases, Uman Help Center assists them with housing, either finding a house that is available, or places them with another family in their home.
