Description
Bee keeper Robert Loketo talks about the DADO apiary project in Kachapangole, Uganda. A bee hive is in the tree in the background.
Personal/Project impact
As part of the beekeeping team, Robert Loketo can harvest honey to use for his family or to sell it. He also benefits, by establishing the beehives in strategic places, to keep his crops safe from wild animals, especially elephants are frightened away by bees.
As climate change made rains unpredictable in 2021 and the average temperatures rise, farmers were able to harvest enough crops to feed their families, make a little money and use the village saving groups as a way to send their children to school.
Project Summary
In the Lokori and Karenga subcounties of Kaabong District, Uganda, DADO prepares the farming community to cope with the impact of climate change through training on conservation agriculture, post harvest food preservation and village savings groups, especially for women and youth.
