Description
Farmer Jose La Paz Castillo works on a field stone erosion barrier.
Personal/Project impact
Castillo’s planting has been affected by drought and flooding. He says he has built 177 meters of erosion barriers during this food for work project. Another community member helped him, and then he helped the other.
There were 300 participants in the food distribution and initial participants in the stone erosion barrier construction. However, as farmers worked together on each other's plots, there was some spontaneous participation and in the end 353 farmers constructed a total of 10,313 meters of erosion barriers. These were built on land belonging to the farming families.
