Personal/Project impact
In addition to a relief kit, Nadiya* received food packages, hygiene items and MCC canned meat from MCC partner Charitable Foundation Uman Help Center (Uman Help Center).
Nadiya and her deceased husband spent their whole lives in a small village in the Chernihiv region, where they raised their daughter. Like many Ukrainians, they built a house. They owned bee hives and made money by selling honey. They also had a kitchen garden where they grew food for their table. The house now lies in ruins, beyond repair, as a result of Russia's military invasion of Ukraine. Several hives were burned by explosions, and those left stand empty. The garden and the kitchen contain unexploded ordnance.
Nadiya’s neighbor has taken her into their home, but she does not know what the near future holds for her. She can’t stay with her neighbors forever. She doesn’t have a family to move in with. She has no hope of rebuilding her home. She can’t even farm because there are rockets in the land that haven’t been removed.

Project Summary
Uman Help Center is providing food assistance, including ready-to-eat meals, two times a week to local vulnerable residents in this area who are struggling with access to food. Uman Help Center prioritizes people whose houses have been ruined by shelling, the elderly and those who are more vulnerable due to lack of work or opportunity. During the summer months, Uman Help Center prepares food packages with a variety of items, including MCC canned meat, instead of ready-to-eat meals.
